DETROIT (WKZO) -- Former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick is having a bad week, and now even efforts by his attorneys to keep him out of court are being dismissed. Attorneys for Kilpatrick have filed a motion to the Michigan Court of Appeals asking them to delay Friday's scheduled arraignment for a probation violation.
In the motion, attorneys portrayed Kilpatrick as the victim of political attacks, claiming that people see the former mayor as, quote, "a darker version of Bill Clinton." The motion also accused Circuit Court Judge David Groner of, “making a mockery of the justice system."
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy dismissed the motion as nothing but a rant. Groner has ordered Kilpatrick to appear in court this Friday for failing to make a 79-thousand dollar restitution payment by last week's deadline.
