Oh Touch Family – it’s on like popcorn!! Summer is officially here and the 4th of July is at hand! It is time for fireworks and Family Reunions!
Now it is my self-appointed task to give you as much help with organizing your Family Reunion as I possibly can. So I’ve got a few tips for you;
1). Make sure that you have a boat-load of tee shirts with the family logo on it ready to distribute.
2). You must have a “Unifying Theme”.
The theme should be fun yet meaningful. For instance, "A Tradition of Hard Work" would highlight the work that your ancestors did to bring the family to this point. "Preparing for the Next Successful 100 Years" would be another evocative theme to give everyone hope for the future. Place this message on your T-shirts and other items.
3). Take time out for a History Lesson.
The kids at the reunion (and even some adults) might not know much about the heritage and history of the family. This is the perfect opportunity to research your family history and present it to the family as a whole. Put together a family tree and use the services at Genealogy.com or Ancestry.com to dig deeper. Talk about how the family migrated or immigrated to the area where most members are located now. Compile a narrated video or PowerPoint slide show to be presented to the family during a special hour of the reunion.

My my my! Here we go again. President Obama is coming to town on June 7th and I am still hearing about people that are upset because they won’t be able to get tickets! People, GET OVER IT!!!!
The graduates of Kalamazoo Central did all of the work required to win the ‘Race to the Top’ challenge. They were the ones that came up with the creative ideas that were used in the video that won the competition. K-Central students were the ones that “raised the bar” if you will, of their high school’s educational standards. They have accomplished something wonderful not only for their high school and for the Kalamazoo Public School System but they have also accomplished something wonderful for the entire city of Kalamazoo.
Truth be told, I can’t remember a thing about my high school graduation but you had better well believe that K-Central graduates will remember this commencement exercise for many years to come.
The bottom line is that this is for the children. They have earned their day in the sun. Please let them enjoy it and stop hating!
Go Maroon Giants!!
All right Touch Family - Black History Month is almost upon us so Buddy Hannah and I have planned a special Black History Month edition of the "Battle of the Bands"! All you need to do is this; Post the title of a song or songs that you want to hear on the comment portion of our Facebook page. The songs just have to ...reflect the mood of the struggle - like Say It Loud, I'm Black and I'm Proud. Let us know what you want to hear Kalamazoo. The show will be aired Feb 27th. Holla!
